Bottom Line

The 153-room, mid-range Hotel G San Francisco is a modern haven in the heart of Union Square, with 24-hour front desk service, on-site dining and co*cktails, an ultramodern fitness center, and an elegant meeting room. Industrial chic rooms, some with city views, have flat-screen TVs, sleek furniture, and Nespresso coffeemakers. The exposed cement flooring -- so much a part of the look here -- and bustling streets below can, however, make the rooms noisy -- it's the tradeoff for a prime location.

Union Square boutique hotel features industrial chic decor with on-site dining and co*cktails

Hotel G San Francisco Review: What To REALLY Expect If You Stay (9)

The Hotel G has a long history in San Francisco that dates back to 1909, when it was called the Fielding Hotel. The poet Robert Peterson once called the hotel his home, when his adopted parents, Ernest F. Peterson and Edith G. Nichols, owned it. The hotel still sits on prime real estate, across the street from Union Square. Originally an eight-floor building, the Hotel G added four more stories in 1939.

In 2014, the boutique hotel once again underwent renovations. The results: a modern lobby with exposed cement ceilings, sleek furniture, and contemporary paintings. The ultramodern setting draws mainly couples and business travelers. Hallways are industrial styled with metal ceiling tiles, wood floors, and cool artistic touches like orange theater seats. There are two elevators, and a cement staircase with intricate iron railings.
