“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
Gregory Lorenzo Clark was born May 25, 1958, to the late John L. and Mary Sue Clark in South Miami, Florida. Gregory had three siblings; his brother Rommel and sister LaRhonda both preceded him in death.
Gregory was educated in Miami Dade County Public Schools and graduated from South Miami Senior High School in 1976. While there, he participated in sports, primarily the varsity football team where he played on the offensive and defensive lines. He also attended Los Angeles Community College while living in California with his father. He returned to South Miami a year later to be with his mother. Gregory later earned his Associate of Christian Education degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. He received numerous accolades, certificates and awards for his deeds and service to others.
Gregory began his professional career at Toyota but was later employed by AvMed Health Plan in the Department of Administration Services for a career that began in the early 90’s and ended around 2005. He was instrumental in implementing procedures that advanced technology in records maintenance. Gregory also attended the Robert Morgan Graphic Arts program from 1994–1996, which prompted him to try his hand at arts and design. This also provided him with a distinct sense of freedom and expression to communicate freely through lines, shapes and colors. He later created several abstract drawings depicting people and objects, adding yet another dimension to his life.
Gregory accepted Christ as his personal savior early in life, was an enthusiastic and avid reader of the Bible. Believing in the power and blood of Jesus, Gregory began a new walk in 1995 at Mt. Olive under the late Reverend Russell E. Harris where he remained until 2004. That same year, Gregory embarked upon a stronger walk with the Lord and joined Second Baptist Church (SBC), under the pastorate of Reverend Dr. Alphonso Jackson, Sr. Recognizing his true calling, Gregory preached his first sermon in 2005. His uncompromising and bold ministry of God’s Word transformed many lives, and his evangelism extended within and well outside the walls of Second Baptist Church.
Never wavering in his quest for spiritual growth, and, trusting the power of the Holy Spirit, Gregory was ordained in 2011 and became Associate to the Pastor. He also served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Vice President of the Men’s Ministry, served on the Mission Ministry, taught New Members Orientation and Vacation Bible School, Bible Study, Prayer Meetings, and Children’s Church. Reverend Clark was a well-rounded man of God who believed in the Supernatural. He walked in the love and light of Jesus Christ and prayed that the joy of the Lord be the strength of all he touched. His ministry was that of a strong Intercessor.
Reverend Clark was an avid worshiper and Ministry Leader. He was passionate about serving God’s people and believed that this service was an honor to God. He fed his passion by availing himself to not only the members of Second Baptist, but to the community at large. Anytime you would see Reverend Clark, he always had a Rhema word that he knew was sent by God to minister personally to whom he was speaking. He imparted that Word, those blessings to and upon the needs as they were presented. How did he know, because there was an anointing on his life; he was blessed, listened and paid attention to the whispers of the Holy Spirit.
Reading and citing scripture was another of Reverend Clark’s favorite pastimes. When in his office, you would always find him reading his Bible and sowing pearls of wisdom. Reverend Clark had a profound understanding of his purpose in the Body of Christ and wasn’t ashamed or hesitant to explore and share his Spiritual Gifts. Like the owl, he embodied wisdom, intellect and profound insights. He had an intimate relationship with God and of His Word and Commandments, which resulted in him living a holy and righteous life, wise beyond his years.
In the wee hours of the morning on Friday, August 9, 2024, God, in His infamous wisdom whispered “well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” With that, the gates of Heaven opened, and Reverend Clark ascended into the arms of his Father. He was prepared, often saying, “I am at peace. When God is ready for me, I’ll be ready to go. I’m good. All is well.”
Reverend Clark will be sadly missed by his family, friends, Church family, and the South Miami and Richmond Heights communities. His passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of all he touched.
Left with precious memories and to champion his legacy are his son, Najee L. Clark; Brother Jonathan “Robyn” Welch (Linda); aunts: Linda Jones of Baltimore, Maryland; Kim Jones Peak of Jacksonville, Florida; uncle Daniel Jones of Miami, Florida; Nephew Cornelius Clark, whom he raised from an early age; three grandnephews: Cornelius Clark Jr., Nevaeh Clark, and Cameron Clark; and a granddaughter Aniah, all of whom he assisted in raising; numerous other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends. Reverend Clark also leaves to mourn his Fiancé, Minister Geneva White, whom he loved, respected, and deeply cherished. Minister White brought much joy to the last years of Reverend Clark’s life and was very supportive in his care… She stood, lovingly by his side until God called him home.
May God bless you on your onward journey.
