Vettaiyan movie Release and Review Live Updates: After the success of his last venture Jailer, Rajinikanth aims to deliver another blockbuster with the action drama Vettaiyan.
Rajinikanth’s much-awaited action drama Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, has finally hit screens worldwide. The film, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara Vijayan, has generated considerable buzz since its announcement as it marks the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Gnanvel, both aiming to replicate the success of their previous blockbusters, Jailer and Jai Bhim, respectively.
At the audio launch of Vettaiyan in Chennai recently, Rajinikanth revealed that it was his daughter Soundarya who recommended that he hear Gnanavel’s story, which she liked a lot. The superstar mentioned that although he had watched Jai Bhim and admired it, he had never interacted with Gnanavel before that. Rajinikanth recalled, “He narrated the story to me, and I liked it… very nice. However, since a lot of money would go into making the movie, I asked if he could adjust it to make it more commercial. I told him that if he brought back the story after adding commercial elements, I would think about it.”
The superstar added, “Gnanavel asked me for 10 days but called me in two. He said, ‘Sir, I will do this commercially… but don’t expect it to be a film like what directors like Nelson Dilipkumar and Lokesh Kanagaraj do. I will present you just like they do — impressing the fans — but in my own way and style.’ I replied, ‘Sir, that’s what I want; otherwise, I would have gone to Nelson or Lokesh.’ He returned in 10 days and narrated the updated story to me, and I was shocked and impressed.”

Vettaiyan is also significant as it marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after 33 years. The megastars last collaborated on the Hindi film Hum in 1991.
During the movie’s audio launch, Rajinikanth explained why he considers Amitabh as his role model. “I learnt a lot from him. He is my role model. When he lost the money, and became addled with debt, many were celebrating his downfall. When you go to dizzying heights, there are many who are waiting for you to fall. Sometimes, they don’t even wait for you to fall. They would celebrate even the slightest of slips. And yet, after failing at 65, he came up. He took up the challenge, and stood up for himself. Even now, at 82, he works ten hours a day, kickstarts his day at the gym. If there are people who are waiting to stamp on you when you are down, you have to get up, stand tall, and stamp on the very people who put you down, and climb back to the top. That is Amit ji. And to have him be part of Vettaiyan is a very happy moment,” said Rajinikanth.
